Man run over by truck after dispute in Assam's Tinsukia, accused surrenders
A young man was killed after allegedly being run over by a truck following a dispute at Powai Centre in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Monday night, April 20, triggering public anger in the area.
The deceased has been identified as Akash Tiwari, a resident of Powai Centre. Police said the accused, Akash Singh, allegedly used a truck to carry out the act after an argument between the two earlier in the evening.
According to initial accounts, the disagreement was minor but escalated later. Investigators said the accused returned with a truck bearing registration number AS 01 SC 1951 and struck Tiwari. The vehicle was then driven over him multiple times, leading to his death at the scene.
Following the incident, the accused surrendered at Margherita Police Station the same night. He was later taken into custody by Digboi Police.
Police have begun a detailed investigation to establish the sequence of events and motive behind the killing.
