"Manufactured chaos": Akhil Gogoi targets Himanta Biswa Sarma over Rang Ghar incident
Raijor Dal chief and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi on Saturday, February 14, accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over the controversy that recently erupted at the historic Rang Ghar, alleging that the incident was part of a “deliberate attempt” to foment communal tension in the state.
Addressing the media, Gogoi claimed that controversies surfacing periodically in Assam were “manufactured narratives” designed to destabilise the political environment and polarise society. He alleged that such developments were systematically orchestrated and funded to trigger unrest and communal discord.
Raising questions over the presence and role of an individual identified as Rafikul Islam in Sivasagar, Gogoi demanded his immediate arrest. “If Rafikul Islam is not arrested by 4 pm today, we will assume he was sent by the BJP,” Gogoi asserted, directly targeting Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Raijor Dal leader accused the Chief Minister of repeatedly resorting to divisive politics and maintaining a network of individuals tasked with creating “unnecessary disturbances” in society. He alleged that such actions were aimed at distracting public attention and engineering communal fault lines.
Taking a firm stand, Gogoi said that any attempt to insult or undermine the dignity of the Assamese indigenous community at the premises of Rang Ghar would not be tolerated. “As the legislator of Sivasagar, I want to make it clear that anyone who comes to this sacred heritage site and points a finger at the indigenous people of Assam will face strong resistance,” he said.
