Margherita Samshaan Kali Puja to be observed in solemn manner in tribute to Zubeen Garg

With Diwali and Kali Puja just around the corner, the Margherita Samshaan Kali Puja Committee has begun full preparations to welcome Goddess Kali.

The centuries-old puja, held at one of the cleanest cremation grounds in the Margherita sub-division, holds special significance for devotees across the region.

Committee members said that while the enthusiasm for the festival remains high, this year’s celebrations will be observed in a simpler and more solemn manner as a mark of respect to Assam’s beloved singer-actor Zubeen Garg, who passed away on September 19 in Singapore.

“Every year, we celebrate Kali Puja with great enthusiasm and joy, but this year we will observe it in a modest way. Zubeen Garg’s untimely demise has deeply saddened us all,” said a member of the Margherita Samshaan Kali Puja Committee.

The committee has decided not to use decorative lighting or burst firecrackers this year, choosing instead to adorn the pandal with cloth decorations to maintain the sanctity and simplicity of the occasion.

“This is our humble tribute to Zubeen Garg — a true son of Assam whose voice touched every heart,” the member added.

The Margherita Samshaan Kalibari, one of the oldest and cleanest cremation-based temples in the area, continues to draw devotees each year who believe the location holds deep spiritual significance. This year, the atmosphere is expected to be one of quiet devotion and heartfelt remembrance.
