Massive fire destroys furniture shop, new bike in Assam’s Udharbond

A massive fire broke out at Char Mile in Udharbond, Cachar district, late night of November 5, completely gutting a furniture shop and a newly purchased motorcycle.

According to reports, the fire is suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit. Furniture and other goods stored inside the shop, along with the new motorcycle, were completely reduced to ashes.

On receiving information, fire and emergency services personnel, along with Udharbond Police, rushed to the spot. Seven fire tenders were deployed, and after nearly two hours of firefighting efforts, the blaze was brought under control.

The incident could have resulted in a major disaster as several residential houses are located close to the shop. However, the timely intervention of the fire services prevented the flames from spreading to the neighbouring houses.

The fire is estimated to have caused losses worth several lakhs of rupees. The incident has triggered panic in the locality.
