Large group of women staged a massive protest on August 30 in Assam's Bajali demanding inclusion in the Orunodoi scheme, citing alleged favoritism and unfair exclusion.
The protesters raised slogans such as, “Stop the brokerage in Orunodoi, expel booth president Hemanta Nath", etc.
The demonstrators accused Hemanta Nath of receiving undue benefits, noting that he continued to avail Orunodoi assistance even after his wife secured employment. Concerns were also raised about why certain individuals continue to receive scheme benefits despite being employed, contrary to earlier assurances that Orunodoi would primarily benefit women after voting.
The protesters demanded clarification on whether the disbursal of Orunodoi benefits is being linked to voting behavior.
They appealed to Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass to intervene and ensure that women who have been excluded from the scheme receive access without delay.
