Minister Atul Bora calls Congress-AIUDF alliance "twin threat" to Assam's unity

Assam Cabinet Minister and senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Atul Bora, addressing an election rally at Sundaridia Zila Parishad under the Barpeta Legislative Assembly constituency, mounted a fierce attack against the Congress-AIUDF alliance, branding them as persistent adversaries of Assam’s unity and cultural identity.

With poll fervor escalating across the state, Bora’s remarks marked an aggressive escalation in the NDA’s campaign narrative. Addressing a gathering of party supporters, he accused the Congress and AIUDF of endangering Assam’s social fabric through opportunistic, vote-bank politics.

“The people of Upper Assam have already rejected Congress. In many constituencies, they struggle to even find candidates. This reflects the growing support for the NDA,” Bora said, striking a confident tone about the alliance’s electoral prospects.

Criticizing Congress’s legacy both at the state and national levels, Bora asserted that decades of Congress rule under leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, and Sonia Gandhi had inflicted lasting damage, which Assam’s people have not forgotten. "Their governance record is the reason they are being politically sidelined today," he added.

Bora’s sharpest criticism was reserved for the Congress-AIUDF partnership, which he described as “two faces of the same dangerous coin” and a “serious threat” to Assam’s future. He warned that their alliance could destabilize the state’s cultural and social harmony.

Responding to Assam Congress President Bhupen Borah’s recent defence of Gaurav Gogoi's visit to Pakistan, Bora dismissed it as meaningless rhetoric. “Bhupen Borah's statements are hollow. I don't consider them worth a serious reply,” he said.
