Motok students' bodies stage protest in Tinsukia, submit memorandum to Assam CM
The Tinsukia district committees of the Sadou Asom Motok Yuva Chatra Parishad and the Sadou Asom Motok Chatra Sanstha on June 1 staged a protest demonstration at Thana Chariali in Tinsukia, demanding immediate government intervention on several public issues affecting the district.
Following the protest, representatives of the two student organisations submitted a memorandum addressed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through the Tinsukia District Commissioner.
The organisations raised seven major demands, including measures to control the rising prices of petrol, diesel, LPG cylinders and essential commodities, which they said have placed a growing burden on the common people.
The student bodies also sought urgent repair and improvement of roads across Tinsukia district, alleging that poor road conditions have caused inconvenience to commuters and hampered development activities.
Among other demands, the organisations called for the preservation and protection of historical monuments and heritage sites associated with the Motok community and the region's cultural legacy.
They further urged the government to strengthen healthcare services at Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital by appointing additional doctors, improving medical infrastructure and ensuring the availability of essential healthcare facilities.
Expressing concern over the growing menace of drugs and substance abuse, the protesters demanded strict action against drug trafficking networks and stronger measures to protect youth from addiction.
The memorandum also sought the removal of illegal encroachments affecting public infrastructure and called for a permanent solution to several long-pending civic and developmental issues in the district.
Leaders of the two organisations said the demands reflected the concerns of the people of Tinsukia and urged both the state government and district administration to take prompt and effective action in the larger public interest.
