MP Amritpal Singh sent back to Dibrugarh jail after police remand
Waris Punjab De chief and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh was sent back to Dibrugarh Central Jail on April 25, after completing a two-day police remand at Dibrugarh Police Station.
A day after his re-arrest by Punjab Police following the expiry of his detention under the National Security Act (NSA), Singh was produced before a local court on Friday via video-conferencing in connection with a case related to the recovery of unauthorised electronic devices from the NSA cell of the jail in February 2024.
The proceedings were conducted before Judicial Magistrate First Class Chandan Saikia, with Singh appearing from the police station under tight security. Nine of his associates, who were earlier lodged with him in Dibrugarh and later transferred to jails in Punjab, were also produced simultaneously via video-conferencing from Goindwal, Bathinda and Patiala jails.
The case pertains to the alleged use of unauthorised communication devices inside the high-security NSA cell, raising concerns over prison security and surveillance.
Singh was detained under the NSA in 2023 following a crackdown on Waris Punjab De and was lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail along with several aides. With the expiry of his three-year preventive detention, Punjab Police re-arrested him in connection with pending cases, leading to the latest proceedings.
