Muharram celebrated with message of communal harmony in Assam's Margherita
The holy festival of Muharram was celebrated with religious fervour and communal harmony in Margherita town of Assam's Tinsukia district on Friday, June 26.
The Central Margherita Eidgah Maidan was specially decorated for the occasion, where devotees and residents gathered to mark the observance.
A grand Tazia procession, one of the main attractions of Muharram, was taken out from the Eidgah Maidan and passed through National Highway 315 in Margherita.
The procession witnessed participation not only from members of the Muslim community but also from people belonging to various other faiths, reflecting the region's long-standing tradition of communal harmony and brotherhood.
Participants offered prayers for world peace, unity and harmony, while people from different castes, creeds, religions and linguistic backgrounds joined the procession together, presenting a strong message of social unity and peaceful coexistence.
Organisers said the celebration once again showcased Margherita's tradition of religious tolerance and mutual respect among communities.
