Nagaon By-election: AIUDF signals electoral push, to field a strong candidate after discussions
The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has begun preparations for the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election and indicated that the party will field a strong candidate after internal discussions, party General Secretary Rafiqul Islam said.
Speaking on the political developments surrounding the constituency, Islam said the by-election became necessary following the resignation of Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi and his subsequent move to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Referring to the changing political situation in the constituency, Islam stated that the party has already initiated groundwork at the grassroots level in anticipation of the electoral contest.
He said a final decision on the candidate would be taken after consultations within the party leadership following the return of the AIUDF president.
Highlighting the party’s political position, Islam asserted that the AIUDF remains committed to representing Assam’s development concerns in Parliament, particularly issues affecting minority communities.
He also questioned the reliability of elected representatives changing political affiliations after securing public mandates and appealed to voters to support the AIUDF in the upcoming election.
