Nagaon bypoll: Sibamoni Bora makes electoral debut in Samaguri with massive bike rally

Congress candidate Sibamoni Bora on September 15 launched her first major election campaign in the Samaguri Assembly segment after securing the party's ticket for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll.

Bora, a former Congress MLA from Batadroba, participated in a large workers' meeting at Rupahi New Market after leading a bike rally from Aruna in Samaguri to the venue.

The rally was attended by Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain and Samaguri MLA Tanzil Hussain, along with a large number of Congress workers and supporters.

The workers' meeting was organised by the Garajan Block Congress at Rupahi New Market.

Addressing the gathering, Rakibul Hussain criticised the BJP-led government and played recordings of news reports featuring remarks allegedly made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and minister Pijush Hazarika about the Miya community and women.

Hussain urged voters to take a stand against the BJP, citing what he described as derogatory remarks made against sections of society.

The Congress leader also attacked the chief minister over his alleged political relationship with AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal.

Hussain levels allegations against BJP candidate

Hussain also levelled allegations against BJP candidate Devasish Sharma, accusing him of signing a document with a backdated date in connection with an alleged change in a video.

The allegation was made during the election meeting and could not be independently verified. Sharma or the BJP's response to the allegation was not immediately available.

The Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll has emerged as a closely watched contest, with former IAS officer Devasish Sharma representing the BJP-led NDA and Sibamoni Bora contesting for the Congress.

The Congress campaign in Samaguri marks Bora's first major public mobilisation in the constituency after being named the party's candidate for the bypoll.
