Nagaon police rescue law student, arrest man accused of abduction
Nagaon Police have arrested a man accused of abducting a law student from the Kachalukhowa area and allegedly keeping her in captivity for nearly a month.
The accused, identified as Raju Ahmed, a resident of Sialmari, was arrested following an operation by Nagaon Police. The woman has been rescued, according to the information provided.
The woman's family alleged that Ahmed had abducted her from her home in the early hours of the morning around a month ago and kept her at Sialmari. Despite repeated efforts by the family and police, she could not be traced during this period.
In a byte, the woman's mother recounted the family's ordeal.
Ahmed has reportedly faced multiple arrests in drug-related cases in the past. The Assamese report claims that he had been sent to jail around 10 to 12 times in connection with alleged drug trafficking activities.
The report also raises allegations against Ahmed's maternal uncle, Abdul Rahman, a former president of the village defence party. It alleges that Rahman assisted Ahmed in the abduction case and may have used his influence to help him evade legal consequences in the past.
Police are reportedly examining Rahman's alleged role in the case. The allegations against him, however, have not been independently established.
