Nagaon's highway parking ban faces alleged violation in Assam's Kaliabor

Three heavy commercial vehicles parked along National Highway 715 at Kuwaritol in Nagaon district of Assam for several days have raised questions about the implementation of a district order aimed at preventing accidents on National Highways.

Nagaon District Commissioner had enforced a directive on May 19, following instructions issued by the Supreme Court, prohibiting the parking of heavy and commercial vehicles on National Highways except at designated locations. The measure was introduced to improve road safety and reduce accident risks.

However, the vehicles remain parked near the Kaliabor Police Outpost and Kuwaritol Higher Secondary School, reportedly without any warning signs or safety markers. Local residents say the trucks have been stationed at the spot for the past three to four days.

The prohibition order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), bars heavy and commercial vehicles from being parked on National Highways under any circumstances. The order also provides for strict legal action against violators.

The continued presence of the vehicles has sparked concerns over enforcement in the Kaliabor subdivision, with allegations that the district administration's directive is not being implemented effectively on the ground.

Authorities have not yet commented on the reported violation or on the steps being taken to remove the vehicles from the highway stretch.
