Neglected road in Assam's Sribhumi poses danger to commuters, locals demand urgent repairs
While development projects are underway across the state, a critical road in Assam's Sribhumi has fallen into a state of neglect, raising concerns among residents and commuters. The dilapidated road, part of the Port Department route connecting Dasgram in North and South Sribhumi blocks to Nayabazar and the India-Bangladesh border, has been severely damaged near the Langai riverbank.
Despite repeated complaints to the district administration, no remedial action has been taken. Locals report frequent accidents involving vehicles due to the poor condition of the road, which remains a vital route for daily commuters, school children, and thousands of residents in the area. The Port Department has reportedly installed a signboard taking “responsibility” for the stretch, but no substantial repair work has been carried out.

The three-time Congress MLA of Katighar, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, is reportedly focused on development in other areas, leaving the northern Karimganj block underserved.
Residents also expressed frustration over the absence of their elected representatives. “We face danger every day using this road. Nothing has been done despite repeated requests,” locals said, demanding immediate intervention from the district administration and elected officials.
