Nepalese social activist Anuradha Koirala, widely hailed as the "Mother Teresa of Nepal," was bestowed with the 21st Upendra Nath Brahma Soldiers of Humanity Award 2024 in a heartfelt ceremony at the Bodofa Cultural Complex in Kokrajhar on Sunday. This prestigious accolade recognizes individuals who have significantly contributed to the upliftment of humanity, aligning with the values and vision of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, a revered leader of the Bodo community.
Koirala, a global figure in the fight against human trafficking and a beacon of hope for its survivors, was honored for her unwavering commitment to protecting women and children. The award, which includes a certificate, a statue of Bodofa, a traditional Dhokhona set, an Aronai, and a cash prize of ₹2 lakh, celebrates her extraordinary contributions to humanitarian causes.
The Upendra Nath Brahma Soldiers of Humanity Award, established in memory of the visionary leader, acknowledges individuals dedicated to promoting peace, uplifting marginalized communities, and championing the rights of the oppressed in underprivileged societies.
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma statue and a garlanding ritual. Assam Cabinet Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma presided over the event, with Padma Shri awardee Patricia Mukhim serving as the chief guest. The occasion was graced by esteemed personalities such as ABSU President Dipen Boro, UNBT President Dr. Dimasha D. Musahary, MLA Lawrence Islary, BTR Executive Member Nilut Swargiary, and others.
Anuradha Koirala’s global acclaim includes prestigious honors like the Padma Shri (2017), CNN Hero of the Year (2010), German UNIFEM Prize (2007), and the Acharya Nandalal Bose Award (2005). Her selection for this year’s award underscores her relentless dedication to eradicating human trafficking and her pivotal role in supporting survivors.
The ceremony celebrated Koirala’s life-long mission to safeguard humanity, cementing her place as a true Soldier of Humanity in the international arena.
