NHAI signboards in Kaliabor draw criticism over Assamese spelling errors

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has come under criticism in Assam’s Kaliabor over alleged spelling errors in Assamese on location signboards installed along the national highway.
 

The signboards have been put up at various locations along the highway to identify places for commuters. However, several of the boards reportedly contain multiple spelling mistakes, triggering strong resentment among office-bearers of the Kaliabor branch of the Asam Sahitya Sabha.
 

The literary organisation accused the highway authority of showing negligence towards the Assamese language and alleged that the language has been distorted on the signboards.
 

The Kaliabor branch of the Asam Sahitya Sabha has demanded that the authorities immediately replace the incorrectly written signboards installed along the stretch from Kaliabor Tiniali to Amoni and ensure the use of correct Assamese.
 

The organisation said the use of incorrect Assamese on official public signboards was unacceptable and urged the concerned authorities to rectify the errors at the earliest.
 

The office-bearers further warned that if their demand is not addressed soon, the Nagaon district unit of the Asam Sahitya Sabha would take necessary steps and initiate appropriate action.
