No proper Anganwadi centre, helper runs it from home garage in Assam's Nagaon

An Anganwadi centre in Garajan under Juria in Assam's Nagaon district is allegedly being run from the garage of the Anganwadi helper's home due to the absence of a proper government building.

The situation has raised concerns over the conditions in which around 40 children are receiving pre-school education and other services at Anganwadi Centre No. 21 West Fotaljar.

According to local residents, the centre has been functioning from the helper's home garage for nearly 30 years, instead of having a dedicated government building.

The garage allegedly lacks basic facilities required for children, including adequate seating arrangements, a toilet and safe drinking water.

Local residents and members of the Garajan youth community have also alleged that the centre does not function regularly.

Questions have been raised over the prolonged absence of a permanent Anganwadi building and the facilities being provided to the children.

There are also allegations of irregularities in the use of funds allocated to the centre and food supplies meant for the children. These allegations, however, are yet to be independently verified.

The Garajan youth community has demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter and action against anyone found responsible.
