The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) on Tuesday celebrated its 10th Foundation Day with a high-energy public gathering at Dotma HS playground in Kokrajhar, commemorating the occasion as ‘Sankalp Divas’ (Day of Resolve). The event drew thousands of supporters, leaders, and party workers from across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), reflecting UPPL's growing grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2025 Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.
The day began with UPPL President and Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTC, Pramod Boro, hoisting the party flag, signaling a renewed pledge to regional development and political autonomy. Senior leaders, including Assam Cabinet Minister UG Brahma, MP Jayanta Basumatary, MLAs Lawrence Islary and Ziran Basumatary, former MLA Hemendra Nath Brahma, and Women’s Wing President Pratibha Brahma, were present on the occasion.
In a sharp attack against BJP, UPPL General Secretary Raju Kumar Narzary directly naming Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP State President Dilip Saikia accused them of manipulating BTR politics for electoral benefits without maintaining a long-term commitment to the region.
“Don’t try to capture BTC from Delhi or Dispur. You only show up during elections. Where do you vanish afterward?” Narzary asked pointedly.
Criticizing identity-based politics, Narzary added, “Don’t come here to divide people based on religion—Hindu, Muslim, or Christian. No power can defeat UPPL in the BTR.”
Narzary further condemned Saikia's recent remarks concerning the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, asserting that they undermine constitutional principles and foster communal division.
“There are no first or second-class citizens in this region. Statements that go against constitutional values are not just irresponsible they’re dangerous to regional peace,” he said.
He suggested that the BJP state president should study the Sixth Schedule more thoroughly before making public comments, especially those targeting specific communities.
Asserting confidence in the party’s electoral momentum, Narzary declared, “UPPL will secure at least 25 seats in the upcoming BTC elections.”
