The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Wednesday staged a massive protest in front of the District Commissioner’s office in Sribhumi, alleging large-scale irregularities and “vote chori” (vote theft) in recent elections.
Carrying copies of the Constitution and chanting slogans denouncing the alleged scam, student protesters attempted to breach police barricades to reach the office of the DC officer. The situation escalated into a scuffle between the students and security personnel, prompting the police to detain several demonstrators and escort them to the police station.
NSUI State Secretary Shubhajit Chakraborty, speaking to reporters, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of subverting democratic norms. “What we are witnessing is an attack on the very soul of our Constitution. The BJP is trying to steal the people’s mandate, and we will not remain silent,” he asserted.
