One crore voices, one anthem: Assam to unite in ‘O Mur Apunar Desh’ tribute

In a historic initiative to foster unity across communities, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that 1 crore people across the state will sing the state anthem, O Mur Apunar Desh, on the same day.

While replying to discussions on the Assam Budget 2025 in the Assembly, CM Sarma stated, "This year, from Barak Valley to BTAD, from Haflong to Karbi Anglong—covering the entire region—1 crore people will sing O Mur Apunar Desh together. For the first time, this anthem will be presented in its original form, exactly as written by Lakshminath Bezbaroa, where there are no Assamese or Bengali words. This will resonate with every tribe and community of Assam.”

The initiative aims to reinforce the spirit of inclusivity and cultural pride, uniting diverse ethnic groups under a single melody that represents Assam’s rich heritage.

The date and modalities for the mass singing event are expected to be announced soon.
