One dead, 8 injured as Guwahati-bound Kamakhya Express train derails in Odisha’s Cuttack

The SMVT Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Express derailed near Nergundi railway station on March 30, resulting in the death of one passenger and injuries to eight others, officials confirmed.

The train, which was en route from Bengaluru to Kamakhya station in Assam’s Guwahati, derailed at approximately 11:54 AM near Manguli, affecting eleven coaches, according to East Coast Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Ashok Kumar Mishra.

Rescue teams, along with senior railway officials, swiftly arrived at the accident site, initiating relief and restoration operations on a war footing. District Magistrate Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde confirmed the casualty figures and stated that the injured passengers were referred for advanced medical care.

A relief train was arranged to transport stranded passengers to their destinations, Mishra informed. Meanwhile, railway authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the derailment.

Due to the disruption, three trains—Dhauli Express, Neelachal Express, and Purulia Express—were diverted, officials added.
