One held with narcotic tablets in anti-drug raid in Assam’s Goalpara

A suspected drug peddler was arrested and a large quantity of narcotic tablets seized during a late-night anti-drug operation in Assam’s Goalpara district, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in Dharai village under Jaleswar in the Lakhipur police station area on March 7.

The operation was carried out by a team led by West Goalpara CDSP Abhilash Baruah along with newly appointed officer-in-charge Jibon Daimari of Lakhipur Police Station. Personnel from the Jaleswar police outpost and Dhumergat police also took part in the operation.

During the raid, police seized 2,888 narcotic tablets and impounded a motorcycle allegedly used for transporting the contraband.
The accused has been identified as Nizam Uddin, a resident of Udmari village under Jaleswar.

Police said the arrested person is currently being interrogated and further investigation is underway to ascertain whether more individuals are involved in the drug trafficking network.
