Opposition alliance of five parties formed in Assam, talks on with Raijor Dal: Gaurav Gogoi
Assam Congress MP and APCC president Gaurav Gogoi on March 19 said that the Congress has already formed an opposition alliance with four other parties in the state and is in talks to further expand the coalition ahead of the Assembly elections.
Addressing the media, Gogoi stated that the current alliance comprises the Indian National Congress, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation (CPIML), and All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC).
He said efforts are underway to broaden the opposition front, with discussions currently ongoing with the Raijor Dal. “Time is short, but we are hopeful of reaching a positive conclusion. Once a consensus is reached, we will place the proposal before our national leadership for final approval,” Gogoi said.
Emphasising the need for unity, he added that the people of Assam want to see a consolidated opposition. Gogoi said he is making his “best personal efforts” to stitch together a broad coalition of parties opposed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He further noted that the success of the alliance expansion depends on achieving consensus among the parties involved, expressing optimism that there should be no major hurdles if agreement is reached.
