"Opposition MLA in slippers distributed Rs 1.5 lakh to every Namghar during elections": Himanta Biswa Sarma
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday., July 15 alleged that an Opposition MLA distributed Rs 1.5 lakh to every Namghar in his constituency during the election campaign and questioned the source of the funds used for the exercise.
Speaking in the Assam Assembly, the Chief Minister referred to an Opposition legislator, without naming him, and claimed that the MLA had provided Rs 1.5 lakh to each Namghar during the election period.
Questioning the financial capacity of the legislator, Sarma said the MLA had entered the Assembly only once and asked how he could have accumulated enough money to make such widespread donations.
Referring to the legislator as someone known for wearing slippers, the Chief Minister remarked that the MLA had previously projected a modest lifestyle but was now allegedly able to distribute substantial amounts of money across his constituency.
Sarma said the alleged distribution of funds to religious institutions warranted scrutiny and asserted that the source of the money should be examined.
The Chief Minister further stated that if required, he was prepared to order a judicial inquiry into the matter to ascertain the origin of the funds and the circumstances surrounding the alleged distribution.
