Orunodoi beneficiaries stage protest in Assam’s Kokrajhar over removal from list
Beneficiaries of the Orunodoi Scheme staged a protest outside the office of the District Commissioner in Assam’s Kokrajhar on March 12, alleging that their names were removed from the beneficiary list.
The protesters, mostly from economically weaker sections, gathered in front of the DC office and raised slogans demanding that their names be restored in the state government’s flagship welfare scheme.
According to the demonstrators, they had been receiving financial assistance under the scheme earlier but their names were recently removed from the list without any prior notice, leaving them deprived of the benefits.
People from several areas, including Gossaigaon, Bhaoraguri, Dotma and Serfanguri, took part in the protest.
The aggrieved beneficiaries said the scheme had been an important source of financial support for their families, and its sudden withdrawal had created serious hardship.
They urged the district administration to investigate the matter and reinstate the names of genuine beneficiaries in the scheme at the earliest.
The protesters also warned that they would intensify their agitation if their demands were not addressed soon.
