Over 11.38 lakh voters eligible to cast ballots in Assam's Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election

Over 11.38 lakh voters across five Assembly constituencies in Nagaon district will be eligible to exercise their franchise in the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, newly appointed Nagaon District Commissioner Aranyak Saikia said on September 7.

Addressing a press conference on preparations for the by-election, Saikia said a total of 11,38,362 voters will be eligible to cast their votes.

The Election Commission will set up 1,339 polling stations across 684 locations in the district to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.

The district administration has also directed citizens of both Nagaon and Morigaon districts to deposit all firearms in their possession from Monday as part of security arrangements for the election.

Special arrangements have been made for persons with disabilities and senior citizens aged above 85 years, who will be provided with the facility of home voting. Postal ballot facilities will also be available for eligible service voters.

Saikia said a total of 149 officials from Nagaon district will be deployed under the Election Commission for the conduct of the by-election.

A control room has also been set up to assist citizens and address election-related queries. People can contact the control room at 1077 or 03672-238000.

Meanwhile, two strong rooms will be set up for the by-election—one at the Nagaon Government Higher Secondary Boys' School and another at Dawson Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School.

The district administration said necessary arrangements are being put in place to ensure the smooth, free and fair conduct of the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election.
