Over 2000 DAP fertiliser packets seized from four trucks in Assam’s Sribhumi
Police in Assam’s Sribhumi district seized four trucks carrying 2,240 packets of DAP fertiliser near the Sribhumi Toll Gate, with preliminary inquiries indicating that the consignment may have been headed towards neighbouring Tripura or Mizoram.
The seizure was made during an operation by Sribhumi Police after the Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station intercepted and seized one fertiliser-laden truck near the toll gate. Police subsequently launched a wider operation and intercepted three more trucks carrying fertiliser.
Sribhumi Additional Superintendent of Police Trinayan Bhuyan confirmed the seizure and said a total of 2,240 packets of DAP fertiliser had been recovered from the four trucks.
Police are now investigating the intended destination and purpose of the consignment. One of the key aspects being examined is whether the fertiliser was being transported for distribution among farmers or was being diverted for another purpose.
Investigators are also looking into the possibility of a larger illegal transportation network involving the movement of fertiliser from Assam or Sribhumi in exchange for Burmese areca nuts allegedly brought through Mizoram.
Police have not yet established any link between the four seized trucks and such a network. The exact source, destination and purpose of the fertiliser consignment are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
