Pabitra Margherita inaugurates Rs 13 crore Eri Sun Silk Mill in Kokrajhar

Minister of State for Textiles and External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, on August 24, inaugurated the Eri Sun Silk Mill worth Rs 13 crore in Kokrajhar. The project was inaugurated in the presence of BTR Chief Pramod Boro, BTR EM Daobaisa Boro and other dignitaries from the textiles sector.
 

During the event, the minister also launched a dedicated online shopping portal and mobile application aimed at promoting and supporting local weavers of the region, enabling them to reach wider markets and improve their livelihoods.


A large number of local weavers attended the programme and expressed their appreciation for the initiative, which is expected to significantly boost the handloom and silk industry in Bodoland.


Speaking at the event, Minister Margherita emphasized the cultural significance of traditional handwoven products, particularly the Aronai. He shared that he often presents the Aronai to foreign dignitaries as a mark of cultural pride, symbolizing India's rich handloom heritage. 


He further highlighted his commitment to promoting indigenous products on global platforms.
