All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) supremo Badruddin Ajmal has said that the Parliament of India itself constitutes a property of the Waqf Board. During a press conference, Ajmal claimed, "In India, Parliament is Waqf property. In many places, Hindus have taken property from Waqf."
Ajmal further criticized the current government's policies, arguing that Muslims have been left impoverished under the BJP regime. “Today Muslims are beggars because of this BJP government. The minority fund has been closed, along with the higher education fund initiated by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad,” he said. He referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assertion of supporting Muslim children in their education, quipping, “Modi says he wants to see Muslim children with a Quran in one hand and a laptop in the other. This is one of the biggest lies of Narendra Modi.”
The AIUDF leader said “Instead of his vision of ‘sabka saath, sabka vishwas,’ he is promoting ‘sabka saath, sabka barbaadi.’” Ajmal claimed that while the government touts support for all communities, it intentionally overlooks the developmental needs of Muslims, thus stoking further grievances among minority communities.
Highlighting the historical significance of Waqf properties, Ajmal said, “Our Jamaat has fought since India’s independence and played a significant role in achieving it. Many Muslims sacrificed their lives for this cause.” He stated the importance of the Assam Waqf Board's substantial properties across the state, particularly in areas like Paltan Bazar and throughout Guwahati.
Ajmal said, “We will not back down. We object to the bill and are prepared to fight for our rights, taking our case from the High Court to the Supreme Court if necessary. These lands hold deep historical and religious significance and must remain under Waqf control.”
