Patient carried on foot due to poor roads, lack of healthcare in West Karbi Anglong

The deplorable condition of roads and healthcare infrastructure in West Karbi Anglong has laid bare the ground reality of ‘development’ in the region, after villagers were forced to carry a patient on their shoulders through hilly terrain to reach a hospital.

The incident took place in Longchanti village under the Singhthong constituency, where a patient identified as Charim Teron had to be transported on foot due to the absence of a proper hospital and motorable roads.

Videos and pictures of the villagers struggling along the rugged paths have gone viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism and concern. The visuals highlight the daily hardships endured by residents, who remain deprived of basic facilities.

Locals say this is not an isolated case but a recurring ordeal in the district, where poor infrastructure continues to obstruct access to timely medical care.

The incident has sparked sharp reactions from people across the district, raising questions on the government’s promises of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” and the actual reach of development in remote areas like Karbi Anglong.
