Patient's death sparks negligence allegations against Nayabil Hospital in Assam's Silchar
A patient's death at Nayabil Hospital in Borjalenga, Silchar, has triggered allegations of medical negligence, with the deceased's family claiming that a delay in providing oxygen support led to his death.
The deceased, identified as Rupam Baruah, was reportedly suffering from breathing difficulties when he was taken to the hospital. According to family members, timely oxygen support could have saved his life.
The family alleged that despite his deteriorating condition, oxygen was not administered promptly. They further claimed that although an oxygen cylinder was available in the ambulance, it was not used during the emergency.
A member of the bereaved family alleged that negligence on the part of the government-run healthcare facility resulted in the death of the family's sole breadwinner. The family has appealed to the Chief Minister to order a fair and impartial inquiry into the incident and provide a government job to the deceased's wife as compensation.
Rupam Baruah was the only earning member of his family. His death has left his wife and children facing an uncertain future, relatives said.
Following the incident, local residents staged a protest outside Nayabil Hospital, demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged negligence, strict action against those found responsible, and adequate government assistance for the bereaved family.
As of the filing of this report, neither the Nayabil Hospital authorities nor the Health Department had issued an official statement responding to the allegations.
