Phani Bhusan Choudhury reacts to Bhupen Ray joining BJP, says AGP–BJP seat sharing to be finalised soon
Phani Bhusan Choudhury, Member of Parliament and senior leader of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), reacted to the recent development of former AGP MLA Bhupen Ray joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking to the media in Assam's Bongaigaon, Choudhury said that the seat-sharing arrangement between the AGP and BJP will likely be finalised soon. He stated that discussions between the two alliance partners are ongoing and the distribution of seats is expected to be completed by tomorrow (March 17).
He also mentioned that differences have emerged between the two parties in three to four constituencies regarding seat allocation. However, efforts are being made to resolve these issues through discussion.
Reacting to Ray’s move to the BJP, Choudhury said that in some constituencies both parties have adjusted candidates in the past and political leaders have shifted between the two parties before as well. He added that while Ray joining the BJP may cause some loss to the AGP, such political developments are not unusual.
Commenting on reports of “go back” slogans raised against the AGP at the BJP office, Choudhury said such reactions sometimes occur among party workers after candidate announcements and reflect internal dissatisfaction following ticket distribution.
