On the occasion of World Photography Day, Photographic Society of Assam (PSA) hosted its annual event, the Jayanta Dutta Memorial World Photography Day Exhibition, at the Gauhati Artists' Guild in Chandmari on August 19. This event aimed to bring together photographers from across Assam to showcase their finest works, celebrating the art and creativity of photography.
The event kicked off with an opening ceremony at 3:00 PM, graced by the chief guest, Goutam Borah, a renowned director and cinematographer. One of the highlights of the exhibition was the presentation of the prestigious "Jayanta Dutta Memorial World Photography Day Award," which was awarded to the creator of the best photograph displayed at the exhibition. This award paid tribute to the dedication and hard work of the state’s talented photographers.
Speaking to India Today NE, Rituraj Konwar, an Assam-based photographer who recently covered the Paris Olympics also shared his experiences. He spoke about the challenges and triumphs of representing Assam on such a prestigious global platform, inspiring many young photographers present at the event.
In keeping with tradition, the PSA also felicitated eminent photographers from the region. This year, the honour was bestowed upon Labu Senapati, recognizing his significant contributions to the field of photography and his impact on the local photography community.
The Photographic Society of Assam, established in 2002, is the oldest and one of the most respected photography organizations in the state. Over the years, PSA has played a vital role in promoting photography as an artistic medium and fostering cultural exchange through various events and programs.
The exhibition which will run from August 20 to 23 will be open to the public from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM daily. The event is a vibrant celebration of Assam’s photographic talent and a testament to the enduring legacy of Jayanta Dutta.
The Photographic Society of Assam extended a warm invitation to all photography enthusiasts and the general public to join in this celebration of creativity and community spirit.
