“Please have patience, you will soon know my direction”: Sushmita Dev after quitting TMC
Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev on Saturday, June 13 said her decision to resign from the party was guided by both personal and political considerations, while indicating that her future political course would become clear in due course.
Speaking after stepping down from the party, Dev urged supporters and observers to remain patient regarding her next move.
“Please have a little patience. You will soon find out which direction I am heading,” she said, while expressing confidence that her supporters would continue to stand by her irrespective of her political affiliation.
Dev also explained her decision to relinquish her Rajya Sabha membership following her exit from the party, stating that she believed it was ethically appropriate to do so.
“If one leaves a party, one should also give up the Rajya Sabha seat, as that seat was granted by the party; that is what I felt was right,” she said.
Elaborating on the reasons behind her departure, Dev said she did not see sufficient scope within the Trinamool Congress to advance her political ambitions in Assam.
She stated that the current political environment within the party in the state was not conducive to her growth and broader political engagement.
“I believe that if I want to advance in Assam's politics, the Trinamool Congress currently lacks the environment to facilitate that growth in the state; this is the main reason to leave the party,” she said.
