"PM Modi is an old friend": Hagrama Mohilary recalls personal rapport in Kokrajhar
Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Executive Hagrama Mohilary on Sunday. January 18 drew attention to his long-standing association with Prime Minister Narendra Modi while inaugurating a privately run multi-speciality healthcare facility in Kokrajhar, even as his remarks ahead of the Bodo Peace Accord anniversary triggered fresh political chatter in the region.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Nilachal Hospital and Research Centre at Devragaon–Pakhriguri, Mohilary recalled his recent interaction with the Prime Minister during a major cultural event, underscoring what he described as mutual warmth and familiarity. Referring to the Bagurumba dance performance held in Guwahati, Mohilary said he was pleased to see the Prime Minister appreciate the traditional Bodo cultural presentation.
“The Prime Minister told me that he was satisfied. He personally came forward and shook hands with me twice,” Mohilary said, adding that Prime Minister Modi is an “old acquaintance” and a “long-time friend” who has known him for many years.
The BTC chief made these remarks while inaugurating the modern healthcare facility, terming it a long-felt need for Kokrajhar and adjoining areas. Emphasising the importance of advanced medical infrastructure in the region, Mohilary expressed hope that the Nilachal Hospital and Research Centre would cater to the healthcare aspirations of local residents and reduce dependence on distant urban centres for specialised treatment.
“The people of Kokrajhar needed a modern hospital, and I hope this institution will live up to their expectations,” he said.
However, Mohilary’s comments extended beyond development issues, as he also responded to media queries on the forthcoming anniversary of the Bodo Peace Accord scheduled for January 27. He stated that the BTC had not officially celebrated the Accord anniversary and went on to make a pointed remark referencing United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) president and current BTC Chief Pramod Boro, asking rhetorically, “What kind of a man is Pramod Boro?”
