Police complaint filed over Zubeen Garg’s portrait being kicked in Assam’s Bijni

A police complaint has been lodged at the Bijni Police Station after a portrait of singer Zubeen Garg was allegedly kicked inside a party office in Assam’s Bijni town.

The Bijni regional unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) filed the complaint, condemning the incident as an insult to the sentiments of the Assamese people. Addressing a press conference, student leaders demanded the immediate arrest of those involved and strict legal action.

Sudip Chandra, organising secretary of AASU’s central committee, said the organisation would not tolerate any disrespect towards the artist, who is widely regarded as a cultural icon of Assam. He warned that strong protests would be launched if such incidents recur.

According to reports, the incident occurred after alleged Congress workers vandalised the Block Congress Committee office, Kamala Bhawan, in Bijni. The workers were reportedly upset over the party’s decision not to field a candidate from the Bijni constituency.

During the vandalism, a photograph of Zubeen Garg displayed inside the office was allegedly kicked, triggering outrage among local residents and student bodies.
