Police enter Lurinjyoti Gogoi’s residence in Dibrugarh, AJP issues 24-hour ultimatum
A controversy has erupted in the Gadapani area of Assam’s Dibrugarh after a police team allegedly entered the residence of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi without a search warrant, triggering tension and a confrontation at the site. The operation, led by DSP Amrit Ranjan Barman, has drawn criticism, with allegations of procedural violations surfacing in the aftermath.
According to allegations, the police team had arrived at the residence in search of a young man. However, it has been claimed that items were taken away from inside the house during the operation.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the situation escalated after the police entered the premises without proper legal authorisation, leading to a confrontation between the police personnel and those present at the residence. As tensions rose and the situation went out of control, the police team reportedly left the spot.
Following the incident, leaders of the Assam Jatiya Parishad, including Chitranjan Basumatary and Jyoti Gogoi, addressed a press conference and termed the incident serious, raising concerns over alleged violations of due process.
The party issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding that DSP Amrit Ranjan Barman be removed from the investigation process. They also alleged that the officer had a “hidden agenda” behind the operation.
AJP leaders further claimed that this was not an isolated incident and alleged that the officer had entered Lurinjyoti Gogoi’s residence on the previous day as well, without adhering to established rules and procedures.
