In a shocking incident in Nagaon, City Sub-Inspector Ranjit Gogoi has been accused of gross hooliganism by a small businessman and a cartpuller. Deep Kumar, who sells goods from his pushcart, broke down in tears after alleging that TSI Ranjit Gogoi had beaten him and pushed his cart to the side of the road in the morning. According to Kumar, his pushcart was his only source of livelihood, and now it's completely destroyed.
"I put my cart here everyday and nobody had any problem but today the town sub inspector broke my cart .. while i was working in the backside somebody told me that the TSI broke my cart and when i asked the TSI why did he break my cart he said he had been warning us for so many days not to put the cart there since his quarter is nearby but we were never warned or told not to put the cart there. This cart is my daily source of livelihood and he broke my cart. now i have incurred a loss of Rs. 8000- 9000 rupees. A cart cost Rs 8000-9000 rupees and i dont have money also now. I was about to go home for my sisters marriage and now my cart is broken how will i earn now. I never put my cart infront of his quarter and he broke my cart.", Deep Kumar said.
In a separate incident, bamboo trader Zubahir Ahmed has moved court against TSI Ranjit Gogoi, accusing him of blowing ear curtains because he did not sell bamboo at a lower price. The allegations against TSI Ranjit Gogoi have raised questions about police misconduct in Nagaon.
The Nagaon Police brass has not responded to the allegations, and TSI Ranjit Gogoi has been mysteriously absent from the police station since morning. The absence of the accused police officer has only added fuel to the fire and raised concerns among the public about the role of the police in maintaining law and order in the city.
It remains to be seen what action the top Nagaon police brass will take against TSI Ranjit Gogoi in response to the allegations. The incidents have also sparked a broader discussion on the need for police reform and accountability in the state.
