Pramila Rani Brahma files application for BPF ticket from Kokrajhar Assembly seat

Pramila Rani Brahma on March 15, submitted her application seeking the party ticket from the No. 3 Kokrajhar Legislative Assembly Constituency ahead of the upcoming elections.

The former minister and senior leader of the Bodoland People's Front submitted her application to the party’s Central General Secretary Maneswar Basumatary at the Bodoland Guest House in Kokrajhar.

Speaking to the media after filing the application, Brahma said she decided to seek the nomination following requests from the youth and the public. She also stated that this would be the last election she intends to contest.

Reacting to reports that Shiuli Mohilary, wife of former BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, may also seek the party ticket from the same constituency, Brahma said there is nothing wrong with aspiring to contest elections. “In a democracy, everyone has the right to seek a ticket. The party high command will decide who will contest,” she said.

Sources indicate that Shiuli Mohilary is likely to submit her application for the Kokrajhar constituency on Monday.

Brahma also remarked that there were other factors behind her defeat in the last Assembly election to Lawrence Islary of the United People's Party Liberal, adding that politics played a role though she refrained from elaborating further.

The last date for submitting applications for tickets from the BPF is March 17. Meanwhile, Kishore Basumatary has also applied for the ticket from the Kokrajhar constituency.

In a related development, Namita Brahma on Sunday, March 15, submitted her application seeking the BPF ticket from the Gossaigaon constituency.
