Pramod Boro wins Rajya Sabha seat unopposed, receives grand welcome in Assam's Kokrajhar

President of the United People's Party Liberal, Pramod Boro, has won a seat in the Rajya Sabha unopposed, marking a significant political milestone for the Bodo community. His election was confirmed after the scrutiny of nomination papers for the three Rajya Sabha seats from Assam.

Boro’s nomination received the support of legislators from the United People's Party Liberal, Asom Gana Parishad, and the All India United Democratic Front, with more than the required number of MLAs signing as proposers for his candidature.

The development has been described as a historic moment for the Bodo community. One of the key objectives of sending Boro to the Upper House of Parliament is to push for the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill of India, which proposes increasing the number of constituencies in the Bodoland Territorial Council from the existing 40 to 60.

Following the announcement of his victory, Boro received a grand welcome in Kokrajhar. Supporters gathered in large numbers to celebrate the occasion with traditional dances, bursting of firecrackers and showering flower petals on the leader. The festive reception reflected the enthusiasm among party workers and residents, who termed the victory a proud moment for the region and the Bodo community.
