Pro-Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh's parents meet him at Dibrugarh jail, expect his release after election win

Amritpal Singh, the leader of 'Waris Punjab De' and an independent MP from the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat, Punjab, received a visit from his parents at Dibrugarh jail on June 8.

Tarsem Singh, Amritpal's father, expressed his gratitude to the people of Punjab for their overwhelming support in the recent elections. "I thank the people of Punjab for voting for him in large numbers. He could be released soon to take the oath as Lok Sabha MP. He was working to save Punjab from the drug menace. There is public anger over the government's decision to imprison him," Tarsem Singh stated.

Balwinder Kaur, Amritpal's mother, also conveyed her appreciation for the public's support, stating, "I thank the public for making him an MP with a very huge lead. He will come out of jail soon. The government will have to release him as people have given him such a big mandate."

Earlier, the wife and lawyer of Amritpal Singh visited him at Dibrugarh Jail, Assam following his electoral victory on June 4.

Amritpal Singh, the detained leader of 'Waris Punjab De,' was joined by his lawyer, Rajdev Singh Khalsa, who spoke to the media about their next steps. "The further strategy is of getting bail. The government has to release him, they have no alternative," Khalsa asserted. He emphasized Singh's commitment to eradicating drug use in Punjab, stating, "Amritpal Singh was making Punjab drug-free... The people have approved that his arrest was illegal and immoral."

The visit comes amid growing calls for Singh's release, with his supporters claiming his detention is unjust and contrary to the will of the electorate.

Despite being incarcerated, Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh secured a decisive victory in Punjab's Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat, winning by a margin of 197,120 votes against Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira, as confirmed by the Election Commission on Tuesday, June 4.
