Probe both Gaurav Gogoi's ISI link and Himanta Biswa Sarma's Dubai hotels' investments: Akhil Gogoi

The controversy over Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s wife’s alleged ties to Pakistan’s ISI and George Soros’ Open Society Foundations took a new turn as Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi demanded an investigation into both Gogoi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Akhil Gogoi alleged that while CM Sarma is accusing Gaurav Gogoi’s wife of links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, there are also claims that the Assam CM has invested in hotels and real estate in Dubai.

“It has been said that Assam CM is highlighting Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s wife’s alleged links with Pakistan’s ISI, but I have been seeing two propaganda at the same time. The way Assam CM has claimed that Gaurav Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth, has an ISI link, the same way a Congress leader has also raised allegations against Himanta Biswa Sarma for investing funds in hotels and real estate businesses in Dubai. Hence, both of them are connected to a foreign country—one with Pakistan and the other with Dubai. Both must be probed by the CBI to verify whether Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s wife has ISI links and whether the Assam CM has used Assam’s money to buy hotels in Dubai,” Akhil Gogoi said.

Earlier on February 11, Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has made a strong appeal for opposition unity to counter the BJP in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. Highlighting the necessity of a consolidated front, Gogoi urged all opposition parties to come together to mount an effective challenge.

Addressing the media in Sivasagar, Gogoi referenced the recent electoral outcomes in Delhi and Haryana, emphasizing how opposition unity played a decisive role in countering the BJP. Despite these examples, he expressed concern over the lack of realization among opposition forces regarding the urgency of joining hands.

He criticized opposition parties for limiting their opposition to verbal attacks while failing to take concrete steps toward unity. According to Gogoi, the BJP remains a "formidable force," and without a collective strategy, dislodging the ruling party and safeguarding democracy would be a daunting task.
