Protest erupts at Nirjuli police station as family of deceased 19-year-old boy seeks action against IAS officer
A massive protest broke out in Nirjuli on Sunday, October 26 as the family members of late Gomchu Yekar, along with the Upper Subansiri Law Students’ Union, gathered outside the SP Office demanding justice and the immediate arrest of IAS officer Talo Potom.
Protesters alleged that the accused officer, Talo Potom, has been evading arrest since the incident and may attempt to secure anticipatory bail once the court reopens on Monday.
The family of the deceased 19-year-old boy urged the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and police authorities to strongly oppose any bail plea that might be filed by the accused.
In a statement, the family expressed concerns that granting anticipatory bail would hinder the ongoing investigation and allow manipulation or destruction of vital evidence.
They reiterated their call for the administration to ensure a fair and transparent probe into the death of Gomchu Yekar.
