Punjab man reaches Assam after seven-month foot pilgrimage across 13 states, plans global peace march
A seven-month-long foot pilgrimage has brought Punjab resident Jaspreet Singh to Assam after he travelled across 13 states, visiting major Sikh religious sites while promoting a message of peace and universal brotherhood.
Jaspreet, a resident of Gosal Rara Sahib in Ludhiana district, recently arrived at Gurudwara Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib in Dhubri, marking another milestone in a journey that began on December 1 last year from Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar.
Covering thousands of kilometres entirely on foot, he has travelled through Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim and other parts of the country before entering Assam.
Along the way, he paid obeisance at several prominent Sikh shrines, including Takht Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded, where Guru Gobind Singh spent his final days, and Takht Sri Patna Sahib in Bihar, the birthplace of the tenth Sikh Guru.
After reaching the historic Gurudwara Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib in Dhubri, associated with the ninth Sikh Guru, Jaspreet is preparing for the next phase of his journey through Guwahati before heading to Tawang and Mechuka in Arunachal Pradesh, where he will traverse challenging high-altitude terrain.
Speaking to India Today NE, Jaspreet said the pilgrimage is aimed at promoting peace, strengthening human endurance and fostering cultural connections through travel.
Following the completion of his route across Northeast India, he plans to continue the journey beyond India's borders. His proposed international itinerary includes Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, China, Pakistan and Afghanistan as part of what he describes as a global peace march.
