A team from the Punjab Police reached the high-security Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam to formally take Papalpreet Singh, a key associate of Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh, into custody following the completion of his detention period under the National Security Act (NSA).
Sources indicate that the police are initiating legal procedures to secure Singh’s remand and facilitate his transfer to Punjab, where he is expected to face further investigation. The move aligns with the process followed in the cases of other detainees linked to Waris Punjab De who have recently completed their NSA detention and were subsequently re-arrested under relevant laws.
Papalpreet Singh was among several individuals detained last year amid a crackdown on the outfit led by Amritpal Singh, whose activities had raised serious national security concerns. Singh has remained lodged in the Dibrugarh Central Jail, which has been holding multiple members of the group under tight security.
