Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp attack on the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi, ridiculing the party's recent political event in Chaygaon and accusing it of deliberately avoiding mainstream venues in Assam.
“A few days ago, Congress organised a meeting in Assam. If they had the courage, they would have held it in Guwahati,” Sarma said during a press conference. “But they chose a Muslim-majority area where many infiltrators live. Rahul Gandhi should’ve gone to Khanapara if he believed in his own influence.”
Mocking the turnout, Sarma said, “Some say around 3,000 people came. We call that a ‘julon yatra’ — even our childhood processions had more crowd than that. If they were serious about forming a government, would they be holding a symbolic rally like this?”

The Chief Minister further questioned the credibility of Congress's new leadership in Assam, suggesting that if Rahul Gandhi had any confidence in his state unit or his newly appointed president, he would have organised a “proper large-scale event” in the state capital.
Sarma’s remarks reflect the ongoing political hostility between the BJP and Congress, with Assam emerging as a key political battleground in the Northeast ahead of the next electoral cycle.
