Raijor Dal protests against smart meters in Digboi, demands immediate withdrawal

Members of Raijor Dal in Digboi staged a protest in front of the office of APDCL Margherita sub divisional engineer on Thursday against the installment of smart meters. A memorandum was submitted to the sub divisional engineer.

 

Members of Raijor Dal shouted various slogans against the state government, Power Minister and APDCL authorities.

 

President of Jatiyo Yuba Vahini, an umbrella organisation of Raijor Dal, Lakhyajyoti Gogoi said "It is very unfortunate that in the name of smart meters general people have been looted in the name of prepaid recharge where Gujarat, Delhi and West Bengal have already withdrawn to installed smart meters at there states." 

 

"Unfortunately Assam government has installed smart meters," he added.  

 

Gogoi further claimed that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the electricity bills of tea garden workers shall be waived off, adding, "However, not a single workers of the tea garden have been beniffited."  

 

"We demand the Assam government to immediately withdraw installation of smart meters at every houses of Assam otherwise in the coming days all people shall submit there smart meters at the office of APDCL Margherita," said Lakhyajyoti Gogoi.
