Raijor Dal's Abdur Rashid Mandal reverses decision, to contest Assembly polls amid health concerns
Sitting MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal has announced that he will contest the Assembly polls despite earlier declaring his withdrawal due to ill health. The decision comes amid mounting pressure and strong appeals from party leaders and grassroots workers.
Mandal had previously taken to social media to publicly announce his inability to enter the electoral fray, citing serious physical illness. The announcement had sparked concern among supporters and triggered uncertainty within party ranks. However, in a significant reversal, the veteran legislator confirmed to the media that he would now step into the contest, driven by what he described as the unwavering support and insistence of his party cadre.
Addressing reporters, Mandal made a deeply personal and resolute statement, highlighting his commitment to his political base. “Despite my physical illness, I am compelled to contest the elections for the sake of my party leaders and workers. Even if I die, I will remain with my party leaders and workers till my last breath,” he said, visibly moved.
Mandal’s decision is likely to energize party workers while also raising questions about the pressures faced by candidates in high-stakes electoral battles. As campaigning intensifies, his health and ability to sustain the rigours of electioneering will remain closely watched.
