Rajdhani Express now halts at Sivasagar town as Himanta Biswa Sarma fulfils public demand

The long-standing demand for a stoppage of the Rajdhani Express at Sivasagar Town railway station has finally been fulfilled, with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ensuring that the premier train now halts in the historic town.

Beginning Thursday, the Dibrugarh–New Delhi Rajdhani Express officially commenced its scheduled stoppage at Sivasagar Town Railway Station, marking a significant development for rail connectivity in Upper Assam.

The move comes after local journalists had, on February 4, urged the government to facilitate a Rajdhani Express stoppage at Sivasagar Town station to benefit passengers from the region. Acting on the appeal, the Chief Minister held discussions with railway authorities, following which the necessary arrangements were made.

On Thursday night at 9:20 pm, the Dibrugarh–New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express halted at Sivasagar Town station, allowing passengers to board and alight. The service was formally flagged off from the station, symbolising the commencement of this new stoppage.

Residents expressed satisfaction over the swift action taken by the Chief Minister, stating that the decision would significantly ease travel for people of Sivasagar and adjoining areas, particularly those travelling to the national capital.
