Rakesh Paul era corruption still persists: Alleges AJYCP leader over APSC result row

Reacting strongly to the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) result row , Bijon Bayan, General Secretary of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), alleged that corruption that began during the tenure of former APSC chairman Rakesh Paul has not been fully eradicated. He said the disappearance of results from the website is indicative of deeper structural problems within the Commission.

“The corruption that started during the days of Rakesh Paul still persists. The removal of results from the website proves that genuine reforms have not taken place,” Bayan said, asserting that the people of Assam deserve a transparent and credible recruitment process.

He warned that any form of “games” or irregularities in APSC examinations would not be tolerated under any circumstances. Stressing the need for systemic overhaul, the AJYCP leader said that merely speaking about reforms is not enough. “The government cannot just claim that APSC has been reformed. There must be strict monitoring and effective implementation to ensure that such irregularities never recur,” he stated.

The APSC had earlier come under intense scrutiny following a high-profile cash-for-jobs scam that rocked the state and led to the arrest of senior officials, including its then chairman. Since then, the state government has repeatedly claimed to have introduced measures to restore public trust in the institution.

However, the latest controversy has once again raised concerns among aspirants and civil society groups about whether the reforms have been institutionalised or remain limited to rhetoric. With thousands of candidates depending on APSC examinations for entry into the state’s civil services, transparency and credibility remain critical to safeguarding public confidence.
